Same Day Crowns

We understand perfectly well that you lead a busy life. With traditional dental crowns, where the process can be frustrating, or even outright impractical you might have to wait weeks or months until the crown is complete. Inevitable? Not anymore. Innova Dental, Launceston is pleased to announce its one visit dentistry solution: Same day crowns.

Using cutting-edge technology, we create beautiful, well-fitting crowns on the spot. You won’t have to return for a follow-up appointment. No more temporary crowns breaking. CEREC is easy and convenient, taking less than two hours for the whole process. Here is a short overview of the process:

Same-Day Crowns (CEREC)

CEREC (Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramic) is a revolutionary restorative dental procedure that eliminates the need for multiple visits and eliminates the wait between tooth preparation and restoration. It leverages the power of CAD-CAM (computer- assisted design / computer-aided manufacturing) to precisely scan and fabricate an inlay / onlay restoration, or a crown while you are still in the dental chair

Due to this unique process, CEREC can restore your tooth’s form, function, strength and aesthetics very quickly and efficiently.

What does the CEREC process involve?

Examination – One of our dentists will firstly examine your tooth to determine if it is suitable for a CEREC restoration, and if any other treatment is required before we are ready to proceed. Once the treatment plan is finalized, we will book an appointment with the appropriate length of time, depending on the number of teeth involved and the type of CEREC restoration required.

Preparation – This appointment begins with a local anaesthetic to numb the area, then the tooth is prepared to the correct shape and dimensions.

Optical Impression – A 3D image of the tooth is created with a digital scan, eliminating the need for a physical mould of your teeth. This digital 3D image will be used to fabricate your restoration, using specialized software to create a suitable design. You can watch on the computer screen as the program designs your crown or restoration.

Milling Unit – The finished design is sent wirelessly to the milling machine, which cuts out the precise shape of the restoration, creating a custom restoration uniquely fitted to your tooth. This restoration is made from a tooth-coloured ceramic with a shade that matches your existing teeth. The restoration is then polished or placed in a furnace, depending on the type of material used.

Placing the Restoration – Once fabricated, the restoration is bonded into place with a dental cement.
